Built Around Your Milk Powder and Can

Every milk powder canning project is configured according to the powder characteristics,
can dimensions, target weight, production capacity and hygiene requirements.

Powder-Adaptive Filling

Servo-driven auger filling, weight feedback and recipe management help maintain stable filling performance when powder bulk density or flow characteristics change.

Multiple Can Diameters

The line can be configured for can diameters from φ73 mm to φ189 mm, with suitable change parts selected according to the actual can drawing and production requirements.

Vacuum Nitrogen Seaming

Controlled vacuuming, nitrogen flushing and can seaming help reduce residual oxygen and protect milk powder during transportation and storage.

Application-Specific Line Design

Equipment configuration, line speed, contact materials and cleaning requirements are determined according to the required capacity and hygiene standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about milk powder canning lines, can sizes, filling accuracy, vacuum nitrogen seaming, production capacity, hygiene requirements, and line configuration.

How is filling accuracy maintained when powder density changes?

Milk powder bulk density may vary between production batches or during long production runs. These variations can affect the actual weight delivered by a volumetric dosing system.

VTOPS combines servo-driven auger filling, weight feedback and recipe management to maintain stable filling performance. Filling parameters can be adjusted according to the actual powder characteristics, helping control product giveaway while keeping the filled weight within the required tolerance.

Why is vacuum nitrogen canning important for milk powder?

Milk powder is sensitive to oxygen and moisture after filling. A vacuum nitrogen seaming system evacuates air from the can, introduces nitrogen and seals the can under controlled conditions.

This process helps reduce residual oxygen, limit oxidation and support product stability during transportation and storage.

The achievable residual oxygen level depends on several factors, including:

  • Can and lid specifications
  • Milk powder characteristics
  • Vacuum and nitrogen settings
  • Seaming performance
  • Required production speed
Can one production line run multiple can sizes?

Yes. A properly designed milk powder canning line can accommodate multiple can diameters and heights through change parts, mechanical adjustments and stored recipe settings.

During project planning, VTOPS evaluates the complete can-size range to reduce unnecessary change parts and simplify changeovers. The components that must be replaced or adjusted depend on the differences in can diameter, can height, lid type and filling weight.

Important: Based on VTOPS’ project experience, cans with significantly different diameters should generally not share the same vacuum nitrogen seaming machine. Separate seamers can simplify changeovers and avoid unnecessary consumption of compressed air, nitrogen and other operating resources.

How is hygiene ensured throughout the milk powder canning process?

Food-grade production requires more than stainless steel construction. Product-contact parts should use suitable food-grade materials and have smooth, accessible surfaces that simplify cleaning and reduce powder accumulation.

Depending on the production requirements, the line may include:

  • Can sterilization or UV treatment
  • Enclosed powder conveying
  • Centralized dust extraction
  • Sanitary product-contact components
  • Accessible structures for cleaning and inspection

The appropriate hygiene configuration should be determined according to the product, cleaning procedure and applicable factory standards—not through a single standard machine configuration.

What factors determine the capacity of a milk powder canning line?

Overall output is determined by the slowest process in the production line, rather than by the rated speed of the filling machine alone. Filling speed, vacuum nitrogen seaming time, inspection procedures, container size and powder flow characteristics can all affect final capacity.

Based on VTOPS’ project experience, vacuum nitrogen seaming is usually the main capacity-limiting process. The machine must complete air evacuation, nitrogen injection and can seaming within one operating cycle, limiting the number of cans processed per minute.

For higher-capacity lines, VTOPS can install multiple vacuum nitrogen seamers in parallel. Filled cans are distributed between the machines and then returned to the main conveying line, increasing the combined capacity of this stage.

Future expansion should therefore be considered during the initial line-design stage. Reserving floor space, conveyor interfaces and equipment positions can make it easier to add another seamer without extensively modifying the complete line.

What information should I prepare before requesting a quotation?

To configure a suitable milk powder canning line, VTOPS typically requires the following information:

  • Milk powder characteristics and bulk density
  • Target filling weight
  • Can diameter and height
  • Can and lid drawings
  • Required production capacity
  • Permitted filling tolerance
  • Target residual oxygen level, if specified
  • Preferred automation level

Factory layout information, utility conditions and product samples are also helpful. These materials allow engineers to evaluate filling performance, format compatibility, line arrangement and utility requirements more accurately.

How do I choose the right can diameter for a milk powder canning project?

Can diameter should be selected according to the target filling weight, required internal volume, can height and packaging design, rather than according to the filling machine alone.

Common options include Φ73 mm for sample or small-format cans and Φ99 mm, Φ127 mm, Φ153 mm and Φ189 mm for progressively larger retail formats.

Because the same diameter can be combined with different can heights, the final specification should be confirmed using the container drawing and actual milk powder bulk density. The filling system, can seamer and handling equipment can then be configured around the confirmed can formats.

Can the milk powder canning line be integrated with existing factory equipment?

Yes. Many projects involve expanding or upgrading an existing production facility rather than installing a completely independent line.

The canning line can be connected to:

  • Upstream powder conveying and handling systems
  • Existing mixing or storage equipment
  • Labeling and coding machines
  • Cartoning and case-packing systems
  • Robotic palletizing equipment

Before confirming the solution, engineers review the existing equipment interfaces, factory layout, production flow, utility connections and control requirements to ensure compatibility.
